COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The 2021 All-Southeastern Conference Cross Country Teams, which honor various categories of outstanding performances at the SEC Championships, were announced by the Southeastern Conference office on Tuesday.
A total of 41 student-athletes earned All-SEC honors, and 12 SEC schools had at least one student-athlete who received recognition. The first team for each gender includes the top seven finishers, while the second team consists of the next seven finishers. The top-seven freshman finishers in each race earn All-Freshman honors.
The University of Missouri ran three runners who earned SEC honors at the Championship meet in Columbia, two on the Men's All-SEC Second Team and one receiving Women's Freshman All-SEC recognition.
Ninth place overall finisher and first for the Men at Mizzou was Junior Marquette Wilhite (Warrensburg, Mo.). Wilhite finished in 23:55.6 at the SEC Championship meet in typical fashion, after leading the Tigers three times this regular season. Wilhite was followed closely by Freshman William Sinclair (Tauwhare, New Zealand), who finished 13th overall with a time of 23:58.4. Sinclair finished second at the Gans Creek Classic with his personal best 8k time, and still proves to be an outstanding, up-and-coming asset for the Tigers as postseason begins.
True Freshman Allison Newman (Germantown, Tenn.) brought home All-SEC Freshman honors on the women's side, with a big finish in 70th of 135 with a time of 22:05.6. Newman has raced in every meet this season, consistently improving her 6k time by more than 30 seconds over three races.
