The Hartland, Wis., native provided two bonus-point wins for the 2-0 Tigers
COLUMBIA, Mo. – After a successful opening week, freshman Keegan O'Toole was named the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday. O'Toole is the first Missouri wrestler to receive the weekly award since the team rejoined its old conference after a nine-year stint in the MAC.
Through two duals, O'Toole is 2-0 with two wins by fall. In his first match of the season, he defeated North Dakota State's Luke Weber in a top-10 matchup at 165 pounds. O'Toole went up in the first period after securing a takedown. He followed up in the second period with a match-finishing pin in 4:46.
O'Toole took a similar trajectory Sunday against Northern Colorado's Nick Knutson. Again, entering the second period with a 2-0 lead, O'Toole rebounded from giving up his first two points of the season to score a takedown and end the match in 4:42 with his second fall of the weekend.
"It was a great first weekend for our program, especially being back in the Big 12," Head coach Brian Smith said. "Two wins over two Big 12 teams and Keegan did Keegan things: scoring bonus points for the team with two pins."
During his true freshman season, O'Toole was named the MAC Wrestler of the Week (1/18/21-1/24/21) and the MAC Freshman of the Year on his way to a 3rd-place All-American finish at the NCAA Championships.
No. 3 Mizzou Wrestling will take on Big 12 opponent Air Force on Friday, Nov. 19, at Hearnes Center. The dual begins at 7 p.m. CT and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
