No. 3 Mizzou Wrestling Wins Home Opener Against Northern Colorado

The Tigers only dropped one match against the conference opponent
COLUMBIA, Mo. – No. 3 Mizzou Wrestling (2-0, 2-0 Big 12) continued its momentum in a win against Northern Colorado (4-1, 1-1 Big 12) 38-3 inside Hearnes Center Sunday afternoon. The Tigers finish the first weekend of the season 2-0 against two Big 12 opponents.
For the second consecutive dual, the Tigers took nine of 10 bouts. Redshirt freshman Noah Surtin (125 pounds) started the afternoon with a 9-6 decision, followed by freshman Trey Crawford (133 pounds) recording his first career shutout in a 5-0 decision. After Allan Hart was defeated at 141 pounds, the Josh Edmond (149) came back and won by a tight 8-6 decision.
Mizzou finished the dual in dominant fashion, rattling off six straight bonus-point victories beginning with junior Jarrett Jacques at 157 pounds. The Columbia native rebounded from his season-opening loss on Thursday to drop 20 points in a major decision.
Freshmen Keegan O'Toole (165 pounds) and Rocky Elam (197 pounds) recorded falls and redshirt sophomore Jeremiah Kent recorded a 15-0 technical fall. Redshirt sophomores Peyton Mocco (174 pounds) and Zach Elam (285 pounds) also grabbed extra points, winning by 19-7 and 10-1 major decisions, respectfully.

- Freshman Trey Crawford improved to 2-0 after recording his first career shutout against Northern Colorado's Dyson Kunz.
- Freshman Keegan O'Toole continued to dominate the mat with his second consecutive win by fall. The streak ties his career-high consecutive falls (2; MR at MAC Championships)
- Rocky Elam recorded his first pin of the season in just 1:37.
HEAR FROM THE BENCH
"Our upper weights are pinners," Head coach Brian Smith said. "They have that mentality. I know if our light weights can start gaining that confidence, I know at the end of the year we're going to be a lot better than we are now."
UP NEXT
The third ranked Tigers will stay home to face Air Force on Friday, Nov. 19. The matchup will be the first between the two programs. The dual is set to begin at 7 p.m. CT.
