Mizzou Men's Basketball Welcomes Kansas City for Monday Night Matchup

Monday marks the fifth all-time meeting between the in-state foes
COLUMBIA, Mo. – After a season opening win last Tuesday, the Mizzou men's basketball team returns to Mizzou Arena Monday night for a matchup against Kansas City (0-2). The game is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. on SECN+ with Nate Gatter and former Mizzou Tiger, Kevin Puryear on the call.

GAME PREVIEW
- Mizzou's offensive attack was highlighted in the season opener with all three incoming transfers who played recording at least 14 points.
- DaJuan Gordon, who missed the season opener, is slated to make his Tiger debut Monday.
- The Tigers are 23-1 all-time against the Summit League.
- Both teams have fairly young rosters with Mizzou having just one senior and Kansas City having three graduate students.
- Monday's game will highlight two defensive minded coaches with Kansas City being the 17th-best mark in Division 1 last season, allowing just 62.6 points per game.
MIZZOU HEADLINES
- Mizzou took a 78-68 win against Central Michigan to win the team's opener for the seventh-consecutive season.
- In that matchup, newcomer Ronnie DeGray III took the spotlight, recording his first career double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. He is the first player to record a double-double in his Tiger debut since 2018.
- Javon Pickett led Mizzou's scoring effort with a team-high 18 points on 8-of-14 shooting with three assists and three steals.
- Mizzou recorded 16 offensive rebounds, resulting in 18 second-chance points in its season opener. The 16 offensive rebounds were the most in a season-opener for the Tigers since 2014.
THE SERIES
- Monday marks the fifth all-time meeting between the two programs, and the first for these two head coaches.
- Mizzou owns the 3-1 all-time lead in the series, with Kansas City taking the last matchup between the programs which took place seven years ago.
- The Tigers' last win against Kansas City was Dec. 30, 2009 in Mizzou Arena where Laurence Bowers dropped 17 points.
SCOUTING KANSAS CITY
- Monday marks the final game in a tough three-game road slate for the Roos to open their season.
- Kansas City opened its season with a 71-56 loss to Minnesota and then dropped an 89-57 contest against Iowa on Friday.
- The Roos, in their second season in the Summit League, were picked sixth in the conference preseason poll after going 11-13 in 2020-21.
- Josiah Allick leads Kansas City with 12.5 points per game while Marvin Nesbitt Jr. has a team-high 7.5 rebounds per game through two games.
- Billy Donlon is in his third season leading Kansas City and guided his team to the top-rated defense in the Summit last season.
