
Franssen Leads Mizzou to Fourth-Place Finish at Desert Mountain Intercollegiate

Rory was one of three Tigers to place in the Top-25 individually
COLUMBIA, Mo. — Mizzou Men's Golf secured its third Top-5 team finish of the season on Sunday, placing fourth of 12 overall at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate ahead of a trio of power conference programs in Purdue, Michigan and Nebraska.
The Tigers carded a 14-over par 878 (280-310-288), anchored by an opening round 8-under par. The 280 marked Mizzou's lowest 18-hole score as a team during the 2019-20 campaign.
Senior Rory Franssen set the pace, earning a T-4 finish. Franssen bookended a 3-over 75 in Round 2 with a pair of 4-under 68s to finish 5-under for the tournament. The senior picked up his 10th career Top-10 finish and his fifth career Top-5 performance. Franssen has placed in the Top 25 in eight consecutive tournaments, and in 11 of the last 12.
Freshman Ross Steelman continued his strong first campaign, placing T-17 with a 6-over par 222. Steelman has finished in the Top 20 in five of his first seven career tournaments.
Sophomore Tommy Boone provided a monster boost with arguably one of his best career performances. Boone tied for 24th, firing an 8-over par 224. He shot a 70 in the opening round, his third career round of 70 or better. It tied the lowest round of his sophomore season.
Columbia native Jack Parker rounded out the scoring for Mizzou. Parker carded an 11-over par 227 to finish T-37, highlighted by a 73 in the final round.
Freshman Yu Ta Tsai fired a 229 to place T-43. He shot a career-low 3-under 69 in the opening round.
Mizzou returns to action March 22-24 at the famed Hootie at Bulls Bay tournament in Awendaw, S.C.
