Divers Set for NCAA Zone D Diving Championships

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou's men's and women's diving teams will vie for NCAA Championships berths as the programs compete at the three-day NCAA Zone D Diving Championships, held March 9-11, at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium in Dallas, Texas.
Zone D consists of divers from 18 different schools.
The meet gets underway on Monday with the women's 1-meter and men's 3-meter competition. Following preliminaries, 18 divers will advance to finals, with scores carried over. Tuesday's events include men's 1-meter and women's 3-meter, while both men's and women's platforms will take place on Wednesday.
The top five female and top four male divers from each event at their respective zone diving meet will be eligible to compete at the NCAA championships. Additional place finishers in each event at each zone are eligible based on the number of student-athletes from that zone who finished in the top 16 in that event at the previous year's championships NCAA championships. Based on last year's NCAA performances, Zone D will advance 10 women on 1-meter, 13 women on 3-meter and nine women at platform, while nine men will qualify on both 1-meter and 3-meter and eight men on platform.
Six Tigers are slated to compete at the Championships. Men's competitors include sophomore Ike Khamis and freshmen Leonardo Garcia Varela and Carlo Lopez, while sophomore Sarah Rousseau and freshmen Maddie Huitt and Savana Trueb will go on the women's side.
Khamis qualified for the NCAA Championships as a freshman in 2019, earning a berth on platform.
