Tiger junior named to premier list for second-straight season
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Baseball junior Chad McDaniel has been named as one of 60 players on the 2020 Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Watch List, announced Monday by The Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission.
McDaniel was also named to the Buster Posey Award Watch List a season ago, as he enjoyed a breakout sophomore campaign. The Coral Springs, Florida, native reset single-season career-highs in average, hits, runs scored, doubles, triples, home runs, RBI, stolen bases and slugging percentage in 2019.
In 12 games (11 starts) this season, McDaniel is hitting .289 with seven runs scored, one home run and seven RBI. The Tigers backstop has also excelled defensively thus far, recording only one error with a .991 fielding percentage.
The Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award, presented by the Kamerion Wimbley Foundation, is given annually to the top Division I collegiate catcher. The initial watch list of 60 student-athletes will be updated on May 6.
The watch list will be narrowed down to the semifinalists on May 19, while the finalists will be named on June 3. The winner will be announced at the 23rd Annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet on June 25.
