Mizzou Baseball Uses Long Ball & Strong Pitching Saturday in 3-2 Victory over Utah

Pair of home runs and strong pitching key Tigers’ win

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Mizzou Baseball (3-2) snapped a brief losing skid Saturday afternoon, following a 3-2 victory over Utah. The Tigers used solo home runs from senior Peter Zimmermann and redshirt junior Brandt Belk, plus solid pitching performances from junior Konnor Ash, senior Lukas Veinbergs and junior Trey Dillard to key their win.

Ash finished with career-high single-game bests in innings pitched and strikeouts, as he posted his second consecutive effective start. Dillard allowed the potential tying run to reach second base in the ninth inning, but struck out the side to clinch the Tigers victory.

Coach Bieser Postgame Soundbites

On Saturday's win against the Utes…

"I thought we did a good job. There's always things early in the season that you look at and can get better at. It was a good team win. We took care of business when we had to today."

On the Tigers' strong pitching performances today…

"Konnor (Ash) was strong. He got us into that area of that ballgame that we needed him to. Then we had Lukas (Veinbergs) as the setup man and Trey (Dillard) as the closer. That was the game plan going into today. They all came in and did a good job."

On Holt Jr.'s big diving grab and double play in the seventh inning…

"What an unbelievable play by Josh. We've seen him do that and use his speed a lot in the outfield. Really good play on his part. That turned the tide there and took some wind out of Utah's sails."
