Mizzou Baseball Drops Sunday Series Finale at Jacksonville State, 9-8

Tigers fall just short in back and forth contest

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Mizzou Baseball (2-1) nearly walked away with a comeback victory for the second consecutive afternoon Sunday, but fell just short after a 9-8 loss to Jacksonville State.

The Tigers fell behind 5-1 after one inning of play, but immediately responded with four runs in the top half of the second to even the score. Mizzou briefly possessed a 6-5 lead in the fourth inning, but Jacksonville State answered with one run in the bottom half, two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh.

Trailing 9-7 in the eighth inning, Mizzou posted single runs in its final two at bats and saw the potential tying run reach third base in the ninth. The Gamecocks narrowly escaped however, recording a strikeout with Tiger baserunners on first and third to end it.
