Mizzou Baseball Wins Wild 12-inning Saturday Matchup at Jacksonville State, 6-4

Tigers erased 4-2 deficit in the eighth inning

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Mizzou Baseball (2-0) produced its first comeback and extra-inning victory of the young 2020 campaign Saturday afternoon, as it claimed a 6-4 win in 12 innings over Jacksonville State.

The Tigers trailed 4-2 heading into the top half of the eighth inning, but produced two runs on four hits to even the score at four apiece. Saturday's matchup then needed four additional innings to declare a winner, as Mizzou pushed across two runs on two hits in the 12th frame to secure the comeback triumph.

Redshirt junior Brandt Belk recorded the game-winning RBI, as he drove in junior Mark Vierling on a run-producing fielder's choice. Redshirt senior Spencer Juergens and junior Trey Dillard were dynamite in relief for the Tigers, holding the Gamecocks scoreless for the final six innings of play.

Coach Bieser Postgame Soundbites

On Saturday's wild comeback victory…

"That was about as hard as you could do it for a comeback win. Our guys did an outstanding job of staying the course."

On the team tying the game in the eighth inning…

"We knew our backs were against the wall. We were able to put together some good at bats. After scoring two in the first inning, I thought we may have got too relaxed. We just need to continue to fight and have better at bats in the middle part of the game."

On Juergens' big relief outing…

"It was an outstanding effort on his part. He buckled down and knows how to pitch. He issued a leadoff walk to start his night and that's uncharacteristic of him. I just think he was too excited and overthrowing the ball a bit. Once he settled in that was the type of guy he is."
