COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Cross Country senior Sarah Chapman (Maidenhead, England) was named the SEC Women's Co-Runner of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. Chapman won the individual women's 6k title at the Gans Creek Classic on Saturday with a time of 20:01.1, setting a new personal record and shattering the previous course record (21:12.4).
Chapman is the first Mizzou woman to win the honor since junior Reilly Revord (Hinsdale, Ill.) for her performance at the Illinois State Inviational (9/26/18). Chapman is also the third female runner in program history to be named Runner of the Week, joining Revord and Karissa Schweizer, who was awarded the honor eight times.
With the fastest 6k time across the country last week, Chapman was also named United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I Women's National Athlete of the Week. She joins Schweizer as the second Mizzou runner in program history to be awarded both USTFCCCA and SEC weekly honors in the same week.
The senior joins freshman Willam Sinclair (Tauwhere, New Zealand) as the second Mizzou runner this season to be honored by the league office. The Tigers have received a conference honor in each of their two events so far this season.
Chapman paced the Mizzou women for the eighth time in her career en route to her first career victory, fending off 17 runners from the defending national champion Arkansas Razorbacks. The Tigers finished in second place as a team with 61 points, behind only the Razorbacks (20 points).
Mizzou will complete its regular season at the Mizzou XC Invitational on Oct. 16. The team will then travel to compete in the SEC Championships on Oct 30 in Baton Rouge, La.
