Mizzou Tennis Improves to 4-0 after Defeating Missouri State and Saint Louis

Mizzou posts clean 4-0 sweeps of Lady Bears and Billikens
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Tennis improved to 4-0 on the season after recording clean 4-0 sweeps of Missouri State and Saint Louis on Friday at the Mizzou Tennis Complex. Junior Ellie Wright (Gainesville, Fla.) led the way for Mizzou on the day, as she provided a perfect 4-0 mark with two wins each in singles and doubles competition.
MATCH 1
Mizzou began its match against Missouri State by taking the doubles point after wins at the second and third positions. At the No. 2 spot, Wright and sophomore Vivien Ábrahám (Budapest, Hungary) defeated Anna Alons and Alyson Piskulic, 6-2, while junior Marta Oliveira (Lisbon, Portugal) and freshman Elys Ventura (Aukland, New Zealand) won, 6-0, over Claire Martin and Mara Presot at the No. 3 spot.
In singles play, Mizzou clinched the match after victories at the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 positions. Wright made quick work of her opponent in the No. 2 spot, winning 6-0, 6-0 over Anna Alons, while Oliveira won 6-2, 6-2 over Ellie Burger. Senior Serena Nash (Bradford, England) provided the clinching point for the Tigers, as she won 6-2, 6-1 over Alye Darter.
MATCH 2
Mizzou continued its perfect stretch to open the season against Saint Louis, as it won the doubles point following wins on the courts two and three. The team of Wright and Ábrahám defeated Cassie McKenzie and Ariana Rodriguez, 6-0, while sophomore Lisa Fukutoku (Tokyo, Japan) and Ventura defeated Mariluz Rojo and Alana Bourgeois, 6-2.
In singles play, Mizzou received wins at the No. 2, 3 and 4 positions to sweep the match, 4-0. First, Ventura won by retirement in the No. 4 slot, as Ariana Rodriguez retired after Ventura led 6-0, 3-0 in the second set. Ábrahám provided the second win in singles competition at the No. 3 position, defeating Cassie McKenzie, 6-0, 6-2. Wright clinched the match at the No. 2 position, as she fought back from a 4-1 deficit in the first set to win 6-4, 6-0 over Mika Misgav.
