Ranked Doubles Win Highlights Day One at Orlando Invitational for Mizzou Tennis

Nash and Goldin record win over No. 37-ranked Niezgoda and Smirnova
ORLANDO, Fla. – The Mizzou Tennis team won four singles matches and one doubles match on Friday, the first day of the Orlando Invitational in Orlando, Fla. The day was highlighted by a ranked win in doubles competition from senior Serena Nash (Bradford, England) and senior Gabrielle Goldin (Bradenton, Fla.), who defeated the No. 37-ranked team from Rice.
DOUBLES
Nash and Goldin defeated Rice's Priya Niezgoda and Anastasia Smirnova, 7-5, the nation's No. 37-ranked team, to record a ranked win and continue their impressive start to the season. With the win, the duo improved to 7-2 in doubles play this season.
SINGLES
In singles play, Mizzou recorded four wins on the day, all coming against Iowa State. Junior Ellie Wright (Gainesville, Fla.) recorded a 6-0, 6-1 win over Christin Hsieh, while sophomore Lisa Fukutoku (Tokyo, Japan) won 6-3, 7-6 (0) over Chie Kezuka (Iowa State) and junior Marta Oliveira (Lisbon, Portugal) won 6-4, 6-1 over Ting-Pei Chang.
Finally, making her Mizzou debut, freshman Elys Ventura (Aukland, New Zealand) defeated Karen Alvarez, 6-2, 6-1.

Mizzou continues with play at the Orlando Invitational on Saturday, with doubles action starting at 11:30 a.m. CT and singles play at 12:15 p.m. CT.
