Yoemans, Beijer Lead the Way; Team Moves Up Two Spots with Season-Best Round
FRANKLIN, TENN. – The Mizzou Women's Golf Team closed action today by moving up two spots in the team standings in the final round of the 2019 Mason Rudolph Challenge, played at the Vanderbilt Legends Club North Course. The Tigers began the day in 13th place, and shot a season-best 292 team round Sunday to move up to 11th with a three-day team score of 895 (301-302-292).
A pair of Tigers notched top-20 individual finishes in the tournament, led by freshman Sophia Yoemans (Red Wing, Minn.) and junior Noelle Beijer (Assendelft, The Netherlands). Yoemans fired a collegiate-best three-under 69 on Sunday – tied for the best round of the day in the field of 81 – to move up to a tie for 12th overall with a three-day 217 total (72-76-69). She was three under (33) on the back nine to start her day.
"It was a fun, high-energy day out on the course today," said Yoemans. "My driver was very consistent the whole day and really for the tournament overall. I feel like I stepped up my short game today, putts were rolling well and my chipping was much improved. It was a very fun way to end the tournament," she said.
Beijer joined Yoemans in the under par club Sunday, shooting a one-under 71 thanks to four birdies, and finished in a tie for 19th overall with her 219 total (75-73-71).
Freshman Bri Bolden (Mokena, Ill.) shot a one-over 73 on Sunday to post the best round of her young collegiate career, and finished in a tie for 51st place individually with a 227 total (74-80-73). She opened her day on fire on the back nine, with four birdies on the way to a three-under 33.
Senior Cherise Otter (Bloomington, Ind.) finished 73rd individually in her first outing of the 2019-20 season with a three-day 234 (80-75-79). Otter shot a seven-over 79 Sunday that included a birdie on each side. Sophomore Julia Bower (Columbia, Mo.) came in 79th overall with a 240 total over the three days (80-78-82). Her final-round 82 included a pair of birdies.
"I thought today gave us a good glimpse of a promising future for this team," said Assistant Coach Mindy Coyle. "We saw some tough conditions with a later tee time and we still managed to grind out one of the lower rounds of the day. Sophia and Noelle were impressive this week, they did a fantastic job of sticking to their process and maintaining their composure. We are still a very young squad all in all, so making a commitment to learn and grow with each and every round will be paramount to our success the rest of this season," she said.
Next up for Mizzou, the Tigers will play host to the 12th annual Johnie Imes Invitational, to be held Sept. 30-Oct. 2 at the Club at Old Hawthorne in Columbia, Mo. Mizzou has won the last five Imes tournaments dating back to 2014, and they'll look to add a sixth-straight win over this year's field of 15 teams.
