Tigers Stand 13th With One Round to Play
The Mizzou Women's Golf Team shot a team score of 302 in round two Saturday at the Mason Rudolph Challenge, and head into Sunday's final round in 13th place overall, but find themselves only eight shots out of the top-10 with one round remaining. The Tigers made a move up the team leaderboard early in the day at the Vanderbilt Legends Club North Course in Franklin, Tenn., thanks to solid early play throughout the lineup.
In the end, junior Noelle Beijer (Assendelft, The Netherlands) led the way individually with a one-over par 73 Saturday, thanks to a trio of birdies. Beijer fired a one-under 35 on her first nine Saturday, as the Tigers teed off on the back side. She logged birdies on the par-three 12th and the par-five 14th and added a final score on the par-five seventh, and she will enter play Sunday in a tie for 29th overall.
"It was a good out there overall for me, even though it felt like more of a grind today than yesterday," said Beijer, who opened with a 75 on Friday. "I made more putts today, so that was a definite positive, now I just have to be patient and eventually I'll see more of them fall tomorrow," she said.
Beijer is joined in 29th place by freshman teammate Sophia Yoemans (Red Wing, Minn.), after Yoemans shot a four-over 76 Saturday, thanks to identical nines of 38-38 on the day.
Senior Cherise Otter (Bloomington, Ind.) improved by five shots on Saturday, and was second among Tiger finishers with a three-over par 75 that left her in 67th place overall. Freshman Bri Bolden sits in a tie for 60th while sophomore Julia Bower is tied for 74th individual, after respective rounds of 80 and 78 on Saturday.
"After the first round I really focused today on my takeaway and tried to eliminate my misses left, and it helped me be more consistent so that was big for me," said Otter. "I was able to dial my irons in and that helped put me in better positions," she said. Otter birdied the par-five 18th hole to go even par on the back nine, and closed with a three-over 39 on the front side.
Mizzou will tee off on the back nine in Sunday's final round, beginning at 9:55 a.m. central time. Follow the live scoring all day at www.golfstat.com.
