
Mizzou Volleyball’s Fuentes Named SEC Overall Player and Setter of the Week

San Juan native continues to lead powerful Tiger offense
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Volleyball redshirt sophomore S Andrea Fuentes was recognized as the Southeastern Conference Week Three Volleyball Overall Player and Setter of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.
"This is a great honor for Andrea," Mizzou Volleyball interim head coach Joshua Taylor said. "She's doing a tremendous job of running our offense right now. She's giving our attackers a lot of great first balls and a chance to succeed at a high level. This past weekend however was a true team effort and I think we have a lot of players doing awesome things."
Monday's announcement marks Fuentes' sixth career honor by the SEC office. She was also tabbed the SEC Setter of the Week a week ago (Sept. 9) and once in her 2018 redshirt freshman campaign. Fuentes was named the SEC Freshman of the Week on three occurrences a season ago as well.
At setter, Fuentes orchestrated an incredibly highly efficient Mizzou offense for the second consecutive weekend. The Tigers collectively produced 187 kills (14.38 per set) on a standout .396 hitting percentage across their four-match stretch at the Tiger Invitational.
Mizzou's offense hit a phenomenal .500-plus in two of four matches this past weekend. The Tigers have now hit above .500 in three of eight overall matches this year. Mizzou's incredible .526 hitting percentage in its victory over Kansas City (Sept. 14) ranked tied for sixth in single-match program history.
Individually, Fuentes recorded 12.31 assists per set in the Tiger Invitational, including 40-plus assists in three of four matches played. In the Tigers' win against Northern Iowa (Sept. 13), the San Juan native posted her first double-double of the year, including a career-high 17 digs.
