Noelle Beijer Leads New-Look Lineup with Sixth-Place Finish in First Division I Outing
WOODBURY, MN. – The University of Missouri Women's Golf team finished play today at the weather-shortened Minnesota Invitational, played Monday and Tuesday at the Prestwick Golf Club in Woodbury, Minn. The Tigers, who featured four first-timers in the lineup, finished in 14th place as a team with a two-round team score of 605 after rounds of 302 Monday and 303 today. The final round scheduled for Tuesday was cancelled due to several weather delays yesterday, which kept the second round from being concluded until today.
Noelle Beijer (Affendelft, The Netherlands) was outstanding in her first Division I appearance, as the junior registered a sixth-place individual finish, thanks to a pair of under-par rounds. The transfer from Florida Tech (the NCAA Division II team national champions in 2019) shot a one-under par 71 Tuesday after a two-under 70 on Monday for a 36-hole 141 total. She made nine birdies over two days, with no worse than a bogey on any hole, and did her best work on the par fives, ranking second-best in the 81-player field with a 4.50 average on par five holes.
"What a fantastic start for Noelle," said Head Coach Stephanie Priesmeyer. "She was a spark plug for our team and we needed her experience and her scores this event. Brianne and Sophia had plenty of birdie opportunities over the two rounds, but they just couldn't get anything to drop, so that was frustrating for them - I feel like they both played better than their scores indicated. Julia finished with some clutch shots down the wire today for us and we were happy to see her in the lineup for the first time. Getting this kind of experience is so important, and I know that will benefit her down the road," she said.
Minnesota native, freshman Sophia Yoemans had a solid outing, playing just 40 miles from her hometown of Red Wing, and was second among Tiger finishers, carding a pair of four-over 76s each round for a 152 total that put her in a tie for 53rd place. Yoemans had three birdies over her two rounds, and just one hole worse than bogey.
Sophomore Julia Bower (Columbia, Mo.) also made her first appearance in the starting five, and she improved two shots on her second round, shooting a five-over 77 Tuesday to follow her opening-round 79 on Monday. Her two-round total of 156 put the former Missouri Class 2 state champion in a tie for 72nd individually. That is also where another rookie – freshman Bri Bolden (Mokena, Ill.) – finished up her first-ever collegiate outing. Bolden shot identical scores as Bower, in reverse order, shooting a seven-over 79 Tuesday after a 77 Monday.
Senior Jessica Yuen (Bolingbrook, Ill.) rounded out the Tiger lineup, shooting a two-day 161 total that put her in a tie for 79th overall.
Next up for Mizzou is the Mason Rudolph Challenge, hosted by Vanderbilt, to be played Sept. 20-22 in Franklin, Tenn.
