Tigers open season on Aug. 22
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Mizzou women's soccer team has been picked to finish 10th in the SEC preseason coaches' poll, the conference office announced on Tuesday. Nine SEC teams are receiving mention in the United Soccer Coaches preseason rankings, including five that are in the top 25.
The Tigers are coming off of their seventh-straight appearance in the SEC Tournament, and have qualified for the conference championship every season since joining the league in 2012. Mizzou went 6-11-2 in 2018, and finished 10th in the conference standings.
Returning for head coach Bryan Blitz's squad this season are All-SEC selections Sarah Luebbert (first team) and Julissa Cisneros (All-Freshman). Luebbert was also named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region Third Team last season.
Both Luebbert and Cisneros led Mizzou with 11 points in 2018.
The Tigers are currently in the midst of their two preseason exhibition games against Stanford (Aug. 11) and Colorado State (Aug. 14). Mizzou will officially open the season by hosting Southern Miss, Aug. 22, at Audrey J. Walton Soccer Stadium. SEC play will begin on the road at Ole Miss, Sept. 20.
Fans will have the opportunity to watch Mizzou at home 12 times during the 2019 season. Tickets can be purchased from the Missouri Athletic Ticket Office by calling 884-PAWS locally or 1-800-CAT-PAWS.
