Mizzou Track & Field Trio to Compete at USATF Championships

Schweizer, Jacobs and Ward all slated to compete on Sunday
COLUMBIA, Mo. – A trio of Mizzou Track & Field current and former student athletes will take to the Blue Oval at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa this weekend at the USATF Outdoor Championships. Former Tiger and current Nike Bowerman Training Club athlete Karissa Schweizer (Urbandale, Iowa) will run in the 5000m run, while Gabi Jacobs (Bloomington, Ill.) will compete in the discus and Ja'Mari Ward (Cahokia, Ill.) in the long jump.
All three athletes are scheduled to compete on Sunday, July 28 in Des Moines. NBC Sports Gold will have streaming coverage beginning at 3:00 p.m. CT, with broadcast coverage on NBC Sports Network from 6:00-7:00 p.m. CT and NBC beginning at 7:00 p.m. CT.
Schweizer, a six-time NCAA Champion and 10-time NCAA All-American for Mizzou, will toe the line in the 5000m run on Sunday at 6:42 p.m. CT. In her first season as a professional runner, Schweizer owns the fastest 5000m run time clocked by a U.S. female in 2019, winning the Sunset Tour (July 9) with a personal record time of 15:01.63. Her time currently ranks 27th in the world.
Coming off her third consecutive NCAA All-America finish at the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Championships, Jacobs will compete in the discus on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. CT. Jacobs finished eighth in the discus in Austin, as she became the seventh female Mizzou athlete to earn three All-America honors at the NCAA Outdoor meet. Jacobs is the school record holder in the discus, producing a mark of 60.25m (197-8) at the Herm Wilson Invitational (March 23).
Ward is slated to compete in the long jump on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. CT. The Tiger junior won his second SEC title in the long jump at the 2019 SEC Outdoor Championships (May 10), posting a mark of 8.10m (26-7). He enters the meet with a personal best mark of 8.13m (26-8.25).
