
Schweizer Wins 5K at Sunset Tour, Prodanov Finishes Top-10 at U23 European Championships

Schweizer sets personal best and Olympic standard mark in 5K performance
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Track & Field had five current and former student-athletes compete in three meets over the past week, led by six-time NCAA champion Karissa Schweizer (Urbandale, Iowa), who won the 5000m run at the Sunset Tour.
Schweizer set a new personal-best in her first-place performance at the Sunset Tour on Tuesday in Tempe, Arizona, as she crossed the finish line with a time of 15:01.63. Schweizer and Nike Bowerman TC teammates Marielle Hall and Vanessa Fraser each finished in the top-three spots of the race, and each met the Olympic standard with their times.
At the World University Games in Naples, Italy, former student-athlete Rauno Liitmae (Estonia) finished 10th in the javelin with a mark of 60.27m (197-8.75) while redshirt senior Jordan McClendon (Black Jack, Mo.) finished 15th in the hammer throw with a throw of 55.54m (182-2.5).
Sophomore Martin Prodanov (Plodiv, Bulgaria) represented his home country of Bulgaria at the U23 European Championships on Saturday, finishing seventh in the 1500m run with a time of 3:51.65. Prodanov finished fifth in the qualifying round on Thursday, clocking a time of 3:47.37.
