Commodores’ six runs in the third inning is the difference maker
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – No. 20 Mizzou Baseball (34-18-1, 13-13-1 SEC) fell victim to the big inning Sunday at Hawkins Field, as No. 2 Vanderbilt secured a series win with a 7-2 victory. The Commodores pushed across six runs in the third inning, as it proved to be too much for the Tigers' offense.
Despite the loss, Mizzou's final two pitchers of the afternoon, senior RHP Cameron Dulle and sophomore RHP Luke Anderson, shut down the powerful Vanderbilt offense in the final six innings of play. The Tiger right-handed duo allowed only two hits, zero runs and struck out seven batters.

Hear From Head Coach Steve Bieser
On Sunday's contest in Nashville…
"It was disappointing. That wasn't the way we wanted to finish this series. We let a few things go today that aren't acceptable in our program. Early on, we had some baserunners at second base with no one out and weren't able to push some runs across. Those things add up and make a difference in the ball game. We got to bounce back from it."
On Dulle and Anderson's outstanding work out of the bullpen…
"Yeah, no doubt. To Luke's (Anderson's) credit, he has been sitting there and preparing. We talk about this in our program. At some point it may look like your personal season is over, but when you get down the stretch there's going to be a guy on the mound that needs to step up. Those were big innings."
#MIZ Takeaways
- Anderson enjoyed arguably the most impressive outing of his two-year career thus far, matching his career-high with three strikeouts. Sunday marked his first appearance in a Southeastern Conference game this season and third of his career.
- Dulle continued his strong work this season, tossing a career-high 3.2 innings in relief against Vanderbilt. It marked the sixth scoreless outing in his last seven appearances overall.
- Zimmermann's solo home run in the eighth inning marked his second straight game with a long ball. It's the second time this year he's hit a home run in consecutive games, joining his season-best streak of three straight games from March 17-20.
- Zimmermann and Brumfield each enjoyed solid weekends at the plate in Nashville, eclipsing a .400-plus batting average. Brumfield ended the three-game stretch with back to back multi-hit efforts. He entered this weekend with only one multi-hit performance on his 2019 resume.
Up Next
