Tigers collect their seventh Top-5 finish in 10 tournaments this season
Columbia, Mo. - After shooting a stellar 27-under par 549 on day one of the Tiger Invitational, the Mizzou Men's Golf team captured third place at their third-annual host tournament. The prerformance marks the seventh top-5 finish out of 10 total tournaments for Mark Leroux's squad this season.
Ending the tournament T-11th at 6-under (210), sophomore Jamie Stewart and junior Ricky Sanders both delivered three solid rounds over the two days of competition. Stewart secured his ninth top-20 individual finish of the year, while Sanders earned his first top-15 finish of his career. Sanders' gutsy performance tied for the best tournament finish of his Mizzou career (6-under at the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational in October 2018).
Senior Matt Echelmeier finished just outside the top 20 (T-21st) with a 4-under (212) in his final Tiger Invitational – his best career showing at the tournament. The Columbia native tallied an impressive 10 birdies and an eagle in his second-best tournament performance this season.
Junior Rory Franssen and senior Luigi Botta both concluded the Tiger Invitational T-31st with 1-under (215) finishes. Botta snagged his first career under-par tournament finish, as his 215 Tiger Invitational score was the lowest 54-hole score of his Mizzou career.
With the regular season now complete, the Tigers will travel to Sea Island, Ga. in a few weeks for the Southeastern Conference Championships, April 24-28.
