
@MizzouMensGolf Wraps Up Play at SEC Championships, Awaits NCAA Fate

Tigers tied for 11th in a field featuring 10 ranked opponents
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Men's Golf wrapped up play at the 2019 SEC Championship in Sea Island, Georgia, on Friday. The tournament took place at Sea Island Country Club, with stroke play occurring from April 24-26. The Tigers edged Mississippi State and No. 25 Alabama to finish tied for 11th in stroke play but fell short of qualifying for the match play quarterfinals.
Junior Ricky Sanders had a stellar performance for his first ever SEC Championship finishing at 3-over par (213) on the par 70 course over the three rounds. Sanders capped off his final round with an even-par 70 to move up the leaderboard to tie for 21st. The junior carded a total of seven birdies in his three rounds at Sea Island Golf Club.
Sophomore Jamie Stewart finished at tied for 26th with a three-day total of 5-over par (215). After starting the tournament off strong with a 68 and a 70, the sophomore finished off the three-day tournament carding a final round 77.
Columbia native Matt Echelmeier finished off his final SEC tournament strong firing an even-par 70 to finish tied for 35th. The senior carded a three-day total of 7-over par, shaving off eight shots from last years finish. Echelmeier tied Sanders with most birdies made this week for the Tigers with a total of seven.
Rory Franssen and Luigi Botta placed 66th and 67th with scores of 230 and 231, respectively.
The Tigers now await their NCAA Regional fate. Mizzou Men's Golf has appeared in 14 NCAA postseason events with eight of them being under the direction of Head Coach Mark Leroux. The team is hoping to add a 15th appearance to its resume with NCAA regionals quickly approaching. Eighty-one teams and 45 individuals will be selected to compete at one of six regional championship sites across the country. The NCAA Selection show airs Wednesday, May 1 at 8 p.m CT on the Golf Channel.
If the Tigers are selected on May 1, it would mark an appearance an NCAA Regional for a third consecutive season for the first time in program history.
