#ShowMe Mizzou Game Notes
Series History vs. SIUE
- Mizzou leads the all-time series against SIU-Edwardsville, 17-4.
- The Tigers and Cougars will compete for the second consecutive year, as they met a season ago (April 4, 2018) at Taylor Stadium. Mizzou tallied a 12-1 victory in the contest.
- Mizzou has tallied three straight wins over SIUE in the all-time series. The Cougars' last triumph over the Tigers occurred eight years ago (April 13, 2011) with SIUE producing a 7-2 midweek victory at Taylor Stadium.
Tigers Win Back to Back Games vs. Kentucky, Earn Series Victory
- Following a disappointing series-opening loss Friday (April 5) to Kentucky, the Tigers responded well with back to back wins Saturday-Sunday to secure another Southeastern Conference series triumph.
- Mizzou evened the weekend series vs. Kentucky on Saturday (April 6) afternoon, courtesy of a walk-off RBI single by junior 3B Austin James. It marked the Tigers' second walk-off win this year with both instances occurring this past week (first occurring Tuesday (April 2) vs. Saint Louis).
- The Tigers improved to 8-4 this season in one-run ballgames, including six consecutive one-run triumphs.
- With another victory Sunday (April 7) in the series finale, Mizzou secured its first SEC series triumph over Kentucky since 2014. Junior LHP TJ Sikkema was fantastic on the bump, limiting the Wildcats to 2 ER over 7.0 IP with a career-high 11 Ks.
- Mizzou put the game out of reach in the seventh inning, highlighted by back to back home runs from junior OF Kameron Misner and junior UTIL Peter Zimmermann. It marked the Tigers' first back to back blasts since 2017.
Mizzou Pitching Staff Shines Yet Again
- Overall this past week (April 1-7), Mizzou's pitching staff was stellar yet again, registering a 2.35 ERA over 46.0 IP. They tallied 61 Ks while limiting the opposition to .229 BAA.
- In particular, the Mizzou starting pitchers were lights out. Senior LHP Tyler LaPlante, freshman RHP Tommy Springer, junior LHP Jacob Cantleberry, junior LHP Art Joven and Sikkema combined for a 1.57 ERA with 41 Ks over 28.2 IP.
- As the Tigers move past the halfway point of the 2019 campaign, their pitching staff has solidified itself as one of the country's best. In fact, Mizzou's collective 2.79 ERA entering the week (April 8-14) ranks sixth in the NCAA and first in the SEC.
- In SEC only play the Tigers' hurlers numbers are even more impressive, as their 2.02 ERA in 12 conference matchups ranks first. That incredible number is nearly a full run less than the second place team ERA in SEC only action (2.95 - Georgia).
- Mizzou's staff has also limited batters to a stellar .216 batting average in SEC play, ranking second-best in the conference. Individually, LaPlante (2nd - 1.48), Sikkema (6th - 1.80) and Cantleberry (12th - 2.35) each rank top 15 in SEC only ERA.
- Sikkema and Cantleberry have racked up the Ks in SEC action, as they rank seventh (29) and T-8th (28) in the conference, respectively.
