Abraham Nabs Singles Victory in @MizzouTennis Loss to No. 17 Tennessee

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Freshman Vivien Abraham (Budapest, Hungary) picked up a singles win but the Mizzou tennis team suffered a 4-1 loss to No. 17 Tennessee Friday evening at the Mizzou Tennis Complex.
The Tigers dropped to 13-11 overall and 0-10 in Southeastern Conference competition, while the Volunteers improved to 17-5 and 7-3.
DOUBLES
The Volunteers picked up wins at No. 1 and 3 doubles to take an early 1-0 lead. The No. 16 doubles tandem of Sadie Hammond and Kaitlin Staines posted a 6-2 win over sophomore Ellie Wright (Gainesville, Fla.) and freshman Lisa Fukutoku (Tokyo, Japan), and Rebeka Mertena and Johanna Silva defeated juniors Gabrielle Goldin (Bradenton, Fla.) and Serena Nash (Bradford, England), 6-4.
SINGLES
Wins at No. 2 and 4 action for Tennessee put the visitors up 3-0. Staines defeated Nash, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 2 play and Mertena earned a 6-3, 6-2 win over Fukutoku at No. 4.
Abraham pulled one back for the Tigers as the freshman posted a 6-3, 6-3 win over Maia Haumuller at No. 6 competition.
The Volunteers closed out the match with a 7-6, 6-0 win for Silva over Wright at No. 3 singles.
UP NEXT
Missouri closes the home portion of its schedule with a doubleheader on Sunday, April 7 at the Mizzou Tennis Complex. The Tigers host No. 1 Georgia at Noon CT before a 4 p.m. CT match against Western Illinois.
