Sikkema Nabs SEC Pitcher of the Week
- Junior LHP TJ Sikkema was named the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week (April 22-28), following a dominant outing last Saturday against South Carolina.
- Monday's honor marked Sikkema's first career SEC Pitcher of the Week award and third overall accolade by the league office. In his first-year campaign, he was named SEC Co-Freshman of the Week twice (May 22, 2017 // March 20, 2017).
- Against the Gamecocks, Sikkema tossed 7.0 shutout frames with 10 strikeouts while not allowing a single hit. The 10 punch outs upped his career total to 238, surpassing former Tiger great RHP Max Scherzer for seventh place all-time on Mizzou's career strikeouts list.
- Saturday marked Sikkema's fourth, 10-plus strikeout performance of the season and fifth such occurrence in his black and gold career. All four of his double-digit strikeout outings have come in SEC play this season.
- He becomes the first Tiger hurler to toss four, 10-plus strikeout performances in a single-season since 2009, as RHP Kyle Gibson accomplished the feat in midst of his Second-Team All-America campaign.
- The Tiger lefty is currently riding a three-start streak at home with 10-plus strikeouts. Sikkema opened the streak with 11 strikeouts vs. Kentucky (April 7), followed by 10 punch outs vs. No. 8 LSU (April 13) and the aforementioned 10 strikeouts Saturday vs. South Carolina.
- In the national individual rankings, Sikkema's 1.31 ERA ranks eighth, 81 strikeouts ranks 39th and 1.00 WHIP ranks 55th. In SEC only play, he ranks top-5 with his 49.0 innings pitched (tied for first), 20 strikeouts looking (second), 1.65 ERA (fourth), 56 strikeouts (fourth), and .180 batting average against (sixth).
