Tigers tally first SEC series sweep since 2017
COLUMBIA, Mo. – For the first time this season, Mizzou Baseball (30-15-1, 10-10-1 SEC) swept a Southeastern Conference opponent with its 9-7 win over South Carolina Sunday afternoon. The game was eventually called after seven innings of play due to inclement weather.
Following a pair of impressive offensive showings in the series' first two games, the Tiger bats stayed hot in their Sunday series finale. Mizzou scored at least one run in five of seven innings, thanks in large part due to its 14 total hits.
After falling behind 4-0 in the first inning, Mizzou slowly chipped away the rest of the afternoon. The Tigers scored two in the bottom half, two in the third and two in the fifth to snag a 6-5 advantage. South Carolina quickly answered however with two runs in the sixth to regain the lead.
A single run by the Tigers in the bottom half of the inning evened the score at seven apiece. Junior UTIL Peter Zimmermann delivered the eventual game-winning runs Sunday with a two-run home run in the seventh inning.
Sophomore C Chad McDaniel led the way for the Tiger offense with a career day at the plate, knocking in three runners on a career-high four hits. McDaniel was sensational all series against the Gamecocks, hitting an eye-popping .692 (9-for-13) with two runs scored, two doubles and five RBI.
Junior SS Chris Cornelius extended his hitting streak to four games with a pair of singles and a fifth-inning home run. The St. Louis, Missouri, native went an outstanding 7-for-13 (.538) over the weekend series.

Hear From Head Coach Steve Bieser
On the team finishing off the series sweep…
"It feels really good. I'm so proud of the way this team battled through today especially. We played a close game Friday and a really close one most of Saturday. I'm really proud of how we responded today after allowing four runs in the first inning. For us to come back, get a couple quickly and keep chipping away all game says a lot about this team."
On Ash's strong performance in relief…
"It was a tough situation for him to enter. You're asking a guy who pitched last night as well and sometimes a coming back the following day is tough. It looked like he didn't have a great feel of his command, but he had great stuff and arm strength. He kept us in the ballgame."
On McDaniel's outstanding weekend series…
"Chad was really good, both offensively and defensively in this series. It was really good to see. We kind of have been getting things done with a couple guys scattering stuff here and there. It was really nice to see the offense open up the past couple days."
