TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Mizzou tennis team claimed the doubles point for the second match in a row but suffered a 4-1 loss at Alabama Sunday in the regular season finale at the Alabama Tennis Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
The Tigers went to 14-14 overall and 0-13 in Southeastern Conference action, while the Crimson Tide improved to 18-10 and 6-7.
DOUBLES
Wins at No. 2 and 3 doubles gave Missouri a 1-0 advantage after claiming the doubles point. Junior Mackenzy Middlebrooks (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and sophomore Marta Oliveira (Lisbon, Portugal) got things started for the Tigers with a 6-1 victory over Alba Cortina Pou and Luca Fabian at No. 2 competition. Alabama evened doubles as Andie Daniell and Moka Ito defeated sophomore Ellie Wright (Gainesville, Fla.) and freshman Lisa Fukuotku (Tokyo, Japan). However, junior Gabrielle Goldin (Bradenton, Fla.) and freshman Vivien Abraham (Budapest, Hungary) edged out Kimberley Gintrand and Ann Selim, 7-6 (3), at No. 3 doubles to secure the point for the Tigers.
SINGLES
The Crimson Tide earned singles wins at No. 1, 2, 5 and 6 singles to withstand the early deficit and claim the victory.
Middlebrooks fell to No. 47 Daniell, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 1 action, and junior Serena Nash (Bradford, England) lost to Ito at No. 2, 6-3, 6-2, as Alabama took a 2-1 lead.
The home team then used wins from Fabian over Abraham at No. 5, 6-2, 6-4, and Selim over Oliveira at No. 6, 2-6, 6-2, 6-0, to claim the team victory.
