@MizzouTennis Grabs Doubles Point But Falls at Auburn, 4-1

AUBURN, Ala. – The Mizzou tennis team claimed the early doubles point but fell to Auburn, 4-1, on Friday afternoon at the Yarbrough Tennis Center in Auburn, Ala.
Missouri fell to 14-13 overall and 0-12 in Southeastern Conference action with the loss, while Auburn improved to 14-13 and 1-11.
DOUBLES
The Tigers picked up the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and 3 action, including a come-from-behind victory at the three-spot. Junior Mackenzy Middlebrooks (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and sophomore Marta Oliveira (Lisbon, Portugal) got Missouri rolling with a 6-1 win over Jaeda Daniel and Yu Chen at No. 2. At No. 3 competition, junior Gabrielle Goldin (Bradenton, Fla.) and sophomore Taylor Gruber (Spicewood, Texas) trailed 5-2 but reeled off five-straight games to notch a 7-5 win against Alannah Griffin and Carolina Turner and clinch the doubles point for the Tigers.
SINGLES
Singes action remained tight early, with Auburn gaining an early advantage at No. 3 and 5 competition. At No. 3, sophomore Ellie Wright (Gainesville, Fla.) fell to Taylor Russo, 6-1, 6-4, and Gruber was downed by Chen, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 5.
Wins at No. 2 and 1 singles secured the win for the home side, as Jaeda Daniel defeated Middlebrooks, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 1, and Madeline Meredith beat junior Serena Nash (Bradford, England) at No. 2, 6-4, 6-3.
Both Fukutoku and Oliveira held leads over their opponents when play was suspended. Fukutoku was ahead of Griffin, 3-6, 6-3, 3-1, while Oliveira held a 6-4, 1-6, 4-1 edge over Turner.

Mizzou concludes the regular season on Sunday, April 14 with a 1 p.m. match at Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
