Ward Earns Second Career All-America honor
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mizzou Track & Field redshirt sophomore Ja'Mari Ward (Cahokia, Ill.) recorded his second career NCAA All-America honor on Friday at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Birmingham, Ala. Ward recorded an eighth place finish with a leap of 7.79m (25-6.75) to earn First Team All-American honors.
Ward's finish is the sixth All-America honor in the indoor long jump in men's program history, as he is preceded by Garry Rainwater (1967 – 3rd), Ajayi Agebaku (1978 – 3rd), Malcolm Pennix (2012 – 12th, 2013 – 14th) and his own seventh place finish in 2018.
Ward posted his mark of 7.79m (25-6.75) with his sixth and final jump, and earned Mizzou one point with the eighth-place finish. His jump was his second-best mark of the season, trailing only his mark of 7.81m (25-7.5) at the Missouri Intercollegiate (Jan. 11).
Ward is the current school record holder in the long jump after producing a mark of 7.97m (26-1.75) in 2018.
