Rivera and Vilches post program top-10 marks in discus and high jump
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Track & Field closed competition at the Texas Relays on Saturday, as two athletes set program top-10 marks. A day after setting the school record in the javelin, redshirt sophomore Sophia Rivera (Brentwood, Mo.) posted the fourth-best discus mark in program history, while freshman Roberto Vilches (Mexico City, Mexico) joined Mizzou's top-10 in the high jump.
NOTABLE FINISHES
In the discus, Rivera moved to No. 4 all-time at Mizzou, as she posted a mark of 52.28m (171-6) to finish fourth in section b. Rivera now only trails NCAA All-Americans Gabi Jacobs, Kearsten Peoples and Jill Rushin on Mizzou's all-time top-10 list. In section a of the discus, Jacobs finished third at 55.03m (180-6), while redshirt junior CeCe Johnson (St. Louis, Mo.) finished eighth at 49.86m (163-7).
In the high jump, Vilches cleared 2.14m (7-0.25) to finish eighth and rank eighth on Mizzou's all-time top-10 list. Senior Landon Cuskelly (El Dorado, Kan.) cleared the same mark to finish ninth.
UP NEXT
Mizzou will return home for its next meet, as the Tigers host the Mizzou Spring Open on Saturday, April 6. The meet will begin at 11:30 a.m. CT at Audrey J. Walton Stadium.
