Scherer and Coach Odom have built a great working relationship
Mizzou Football head coach Barry Odom bases his coaching style around genuine and unique connections with his players. One of those former players whom Coach Odom developed a sincere connection with was LB Michael Scherer, who last played for Mizzou in 2016, Coach Odom's first season at the helm of the program.
The parallels between Coach Odom's career and Scherer's are staggering. They both played the same position and both saw their on-field careers cut short due to knee injuries late during their senior seasons. It's safe to say that through all of that, Scherer earned the respect of his head coach. That's why, when Coach Odom had a graduate assistant position open on his coaching staff this year, he knew exactly who he would call.
