Curry posts No. 2 mark in javelin, O’Neal No. 7 in the 400m hurdles
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Track & Field opened competition at the Texas Relays on Thursday as six athletes competed in four events. Freshmen Ava Curry (Liberty, Mo.) and Morgan O'Neal (Sylacuaga, Ala.) provided the highlights of the day, as they each posted program top-10 marks.
NOTABLE FINISHES
Curry placed first in section b of the women's javelin, as she posted a mark of 50.74m (166-6). Her mark was almost two meters ahead of second-place finisher Akealy Moton (North Dakota State), who posted a throw of 48.75m (159-11). In just her second collegiate meet, Curry moves to No. 2 all-time on Mizzou's top-10 list, as she surpassed her debut performance of 47.90m (157-2) at the Herm Wilson Invitational (March 23). Curry is just the second Mizzou javelin thrower to surpass 50 meters, as she only trails Hailey Twietmeyer's 2014 mark of 51.17m (167-10.5).
In the 400m hurdles, O'Neal posted a time of 1:01.18 to finish 18th. Her time bested her mark of 1:01.35 which she ran at the Herm Wilson Invitational (March 23), and moved her from ninth to seventh on Mizzou's all-time top-10 list.
Senior Becky Keating (Reading, England) also posted a top-10 finish on the day for Mizzou, as she finished seventh in the hammer throw with a mark of 61.88m (203-0).
