It's the first career SEC award for the junior from Scotland.
COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou Men's Golf junior Rory Franssen has been named Southeastern Conference Golfer of the Week, as announced by the league office on Wednesday. It marks the first career SEC weekly honor for Franssen.
The junior from Scotland led Mizzou and finished second out of a loaded field at the famed Hootie at Bull's Bay Tournament, which included 75 competitors. It matched the best individual finish of his career and his best since placing second at the Tigers' season-opening tournament in September of 2017, the Turning Stone Intercollegiate.
Franssen fired a 10-under par 206 at the Hootie, carding three consecutive rounds under par to secure his Top-2 finish. It marked his lowest 54-hole score since shooting a 205 as a freshman at the Suntrust Gator Invite. His outstanding week was catapulted by a career-low 67 in the opening round and he followed with a 69 and a 70 in rounds two and three, respectively. Following Franssen's performance, Mizzou has now had a Tiger finish seventh or better in six tournaments this season.
As a result of Franssen's monster outing, the Tigers finished fourth out of 15 teams, firing a 7-under 857 (279-296-282) as a team. In the process, Mizzou bested five teams ranked in the Top-50 nationally, including No. 4 Duke.
Head coach Mark Leroux's squad has now secured six Top-5 team finishes in nine tournaments during the 2018-19 campaign and back-to-back Top-4 performances. Franssen and the Tigers are back in action April 8-9 when they host the Tiger Invitational at Mizzou's home course, The Club at Old Hawthorne.
