Two unearned runs allowed in fourth inning, plus offense going flat proves costly for Tigers
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Baseball (14-9, 1-4 SEC) fell 3-0 Saturday afternoon to No. 20 Ole Miss at Taylor Stadium. The weekend series is squared at one apiece entering Sunday's rubber match. Senior LHP Tyler LaPlante will get the ball for Mizzou, while the Rebels will counter with freshman RHP Gunnar Hoglund.
Mizzou's offense struggled to get going all afternoon, as it didn't record a hit until the seventh inning. Junior SS Chris Cornelius' knock, plus senior 3B Paul Gomez' eighth inning single was all the Tigers could muster offensively off of Ole Miss' starting pitcher, RHP Doug Nikhazy.

Hear From Head Coach Steve Bieser
On Sikkema producing a solid start despite not having his best stuff…
"I think the biggest thing for TJ is that he's such a competitor. He didn't have his best stuff today, but he battled all game long. I'm proud of him to battle like that. He gave us seven innings. The walks today and not having his best stuff, we just need to make an adjustment there and fix it."
On the Tigers' defensive struggles Saturday…
"It would take a whole lot of great defensive plays to overcome our two errors that were playable balls. A ground ball in the outfield that turns into runs is never a good thing. We had a misplay in the outfield early where a high fly ball drops. You can't overcome bad defense and that's something we struggled with today."
