Exciting battles expected as Tigers will fight for coveted Olympic Team Trials bids
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Wrestling will have three standouts competing at this weekend's USA Wrestling Men's Freestyle Senior Nationals in Fort Worth, Texas. Action will begin Saturday (Dec. 21) and conclude Sunday (Dec. 22). In all, this weekend's competition will serve as the largest Olympic Team Trials qualifier of the year with 30 spots up for grabs across six Olympic weights (57 kg, 65 kg, 74 kg, 86 kg, 97 kg and 125 kg). The top five athletes in each weight will earn a bid to the US Olympic Trials in April.
Representing Mizzou will be former All-American Alan Waters (57 kg), current heavyweight Zach Elam (125 kg) and former All-American Dom Bradley (125 kg). Bradley is a 2009 Junior World Champion and is considered to be one of the favorites at the weight. He drew the No. 2 seed at 125 kg while Elam is the No. 9 seed. Waters is the No. 12 seed at 57 kg.
The pre-seeds were based on the online registration, which closed Tuesday (Dec. 17) at 12 p.m. CT. Since walk-ups are expected, there will be a seeding meeting on Friday night in Texas to determine full seedings and brackets.
Men's freestyle action will take place Dec. 21-22 live on Flowrestling.org.
