Mizzou has three players record double-doubles for the first time since 2005
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Women's Basketball (1-1, 0-0 SEC) was narrowly defeated by the Nebraska Cornhuskers (2-0, 0-0 Big Ten) in overtime, 90-85, on Sunday afternoon at Mizzou Arena. Redshirt senior forward Hannah Schuchts (Tallahassee, Fla.), senior guard Jordan Roundtree (St. Louis, Mo.) and senior guard Amber Smith (Shreveport, La.) each recorded double-doubles, marking the first time Mizzou has had three players reach the feat in the same game since Nov. 11, 2005.
TURNING POINT
Mizzou led late in the fourth quarter, 76-73, following two free throw shots from Smith, but Nebraska's Sam Haiby nailed a three-pointer with four seconds remaining to send the game into overtime. In overtime, Nebraska outscored Mizzou, 14-9, to seal the victory.
TOP TIGERS
- Freshman Aijha Blackwell (Berkeley, Mo.) tallied 21 points and dished out four assists in her second collegiate game. Blackwell's 21 points are the most by a freshman since Sophie Cunningham scored 23 against Texas in the 2016 NCAA Tournament (3/21/16).
- Smith scored 20 points and grabbed 14 rebounds on her way to securing her second straight double-double. Smith was also 10-for-11 on free throws.
- Roundtree recorded her first career double-double with 16 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. The Tiger senior was also a perfect 9-for-9 from the charity stripe.
- Schuchts recorded her second double-double in as many games, as she grabbed 10 rebounds and scored 13 points against Nebraska. These are the first two double-doubles of her career.
NOTES
- With 20 points and 14 rebounds, Smith secured her second double-double of the season, following her strong performance against Western Illinois (27 pts & 15 rebs). Smith now has double-doubles in two straight games, and 12 for her career.
- Smith is the 11th Tiger in program history to post back-to-back 20-point games to start a season.
- Roundtree tallied 16 points and a career-high 10 rebounds, as she secured her first career double-double. This is also the second straight game that Roundtree has scored in double figures, marking the first time in her career she has scored in double figures in back-to-back games.
- With 10 rebounds, Roundtree recorded a career high. Her previous high was seven, last doing so against Kentucky (3/8/19).
- For the second straight game, Schuchts recorded a double-double, as she scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds against Nebraska. This is the first time in her career she has recorded two-straight double-doubles.
- Smith, Roundtree and Schuchts each recorded a double-double in Sunday's loss, marking the first time since Nov. 11, 2005 (vs. Clemson) Mizzou had had three players record a double-double.
- Both Smith and Roundtree were stellar from the charity stripe as they went 10-for-11 and 8-for-8, respectively. Both marks set career highs for Smith and Roundtree.
- In her second career game, Blackwell scored 21 points, recording her first game in double figures. It is the most points by a Mizzou freshman since Sophie Cunningham scored 23 against Texas in the 2016 NCAA Tournament (3/21/16).
- Smith and Blackwell's scoring outputs marks the first time Mizzou has had two 20-point scorers since Sophie Cunningham (27) and Smith (20) did so vs. South Carolina on Jan. 17, 2018.
- Junior guard Elle Brown (Columbia, Mo.) made her first career start in the Black & Gold.
- Mizzou played in its second consecutive overtime game for the first time since Feb. 21 (66-69 loss at Iowa State) and Feb. 25, 2012 (61-56 win vs. Kansas State). It is the first time in program history Mizzou has started a season with two consecutive overtime games.
