
Mizzou Women’s Basketball Cruises to 121-40 Victory over Fontbonne in Exhibition Play

Elle Brown scores 24 points to pace Tigers, Schuchts records double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Women's Basketball dominated its second exhibition game of the 2019-20 season on Tuesday night at Mizzou Arena, defeating Fontbonne 121-40. The Tigers opened the ballgame on a 24-4 run and continued to roll against the visiting Griffins, reaching the 100-point barrier by the middle of the fourth quarter.
The Tigers were led offensively by junior guard Elle Brown (Columbia, Mo.), who totaled 24 points on an extremely efficient 11-for-13 shooting performance from the field. Brown found her way to easy baskets at the rim on plenty of occasions by grabbing six steals and taking the rock coast to coast.
TURNING POINT
During Mizzou's 24-4 run to open the ballgame, the Tigers deployed a stifling defensive press. Mizzou forced eleven turnovers during the game's first eight minutes which led to a number of easy buckets. The Tigers were also dominant on the offensive glass during the opening run, hauling in nine offensive boards, extending a number of possessions as they built the controlling lead.
TOP TIGERS
- Brown led the Mizzou offense, scoring 24 points while dishing out five assists and grabbing six steals.
- Redshirt senior Hannah Schuchts (Tallahassee, Fla.) poured in 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field. Schuchts also grabbed 10 rebounds on her way to recording a double-double. The Mizzou senior came out of the halftime break on fire as she sank three-straight triples to extend Mizzou's large advantage.
- After posting 22 points in the Tigers' opening exhibition game, freshman Hayley Frank (Strafford, Mo.) posted a 17-point performance on a 7-of-13 shooting performance.
- Freshman Aijha Blackwell (Berkeley, Mo.) compiled a strong all-around performance, dishing seven assists and grabbing seven boards while pouring in 16 points. Blackwell also displayed a natural ability to locate loose balls and clog passing lanes, racking up nine steals in the dominant win.
NOTES
- Mizzou's 121 points were the most in an exhibition game during the Robin Pingeton era.
- The Tigers forced 31 turnovers and converted the thefts to a total of 54 points off of turnovers.
- Mizzou had each of its eleven players who saw game action record a basket. Meanwhile, six Tigers scored in double digits.
- Mizzou's bench score 79 points in the game, outscoring Fontbonne by 39 points.
UP NEXT
Mizzou opens the regular season next Tuesday, Nov. 5 against Western Illinois at Mizzou Arena. The game is scheduled to tipoff at 7:00 p.m. CT and will be broadcasted on SEC Network +.
