A New Beginning in Her New Home Away From Home
Junior forward LaDazhia Williams is excited to begin the new chapter of her basketball career with the Mizzou Women's Basketball program. After a two-year stint at South Carolina, Williams, the 12th-best forward and the No. 48 overall prospect in the Class of 2017 by ESPNW decided to transfer, and she ultimately chose Mizzou to continue her collegiate career.
As she sits out this season due to transfer requirements, she is looking forward to what her teammates can do on the floor, especially the freshmen.
"I feel like we have a lot of good young talent coming in. I'm just excited to see what they will do on the court and in the SEC," Williams said.
During the recruiting process of choosing a new school, Williams relied on the support from her mom, who encouraged her to make the decision that was best for her.
"My biggest supporter is my mom. She just told me to go where I feel like it is a home away from home because I am far away from my home," Williams said.
Now that she is at Mizzou practicing with the team, Williams is excited to see her teammates play on game day. While sitting out, she'll get a close look at the culture the coaching staff creates, which is what brought her to Mizzou in the first place.
"They brought me in and I just really liked what they stand for. They practice what they preach," Williams said.
Williams will continue to grow and learn from these coaches and teammates until she is finally back on the court in the 2020-21 season. While she will not see playing time this season, Williams knows that she is still a valuable asset to the team.
"My biggest goal will be to be a leader and push through adversity," Williams said. "Since I am not able to play this year I want to be the player that my team needs."
