George and Schwartz Earn SEC Weekly Honors

Tandem contributed to Mizzou’s sweep of the Gans Creek Classic
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Cross Country's Thomas George (Gloucester, England) and Jenna Schwartz (Waterloo, Ill.) both earned Southeastern Conference weekly honors, announced Tuesday by the league office. George, a redshirt senior, won the Men's 8K race in last week's Gans Creek Classic, earning his second victory of the 2019 season. Meanwhile, Schwartz finished as the top freshman and 6th overall with a time of 21:45.6 in the women's 6K race.
Schwartz has now earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors twice this season as she was also recognized after her strong showing at the Commodore classic when she finished as the meet's leading freshman. As a team, the Mizzou women have had freshman honored by the SEC after each of its three meets as Mizzou's Ginger Murnieks (Lee's Summit, Mo.) earned recognition after the Mizzou Cross Country Opener on August 30.
After being awarded SEC Men's Runner of the Week honors, George has now collected the recognition for the second time in his career at Mizzou. George earned the award last season after finishing third overall at the Illinois State Invite on September 14.
Schwartz was one of four Tigers to finish in the top-10 last Friday for the Mizzou women, leading the Tigers to a first-place overall team finish. Meanwhile, George's victory in the Men's 8k helped propel the men's squad to a narrow two-point team win over the Texas A&M Aggies and the rest of the men's field.
Mizzou will race next on Friday, October 18 when they head to both the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational in Madison, Wisconsin, and the Bradley Pink Classic in Peoria, Illinois. The pair of races are the final events before postseason competition begins with the SEC Championships in Lexington, Kentucky, on Friday, November 1.
