NORFOLK, Va. - The Mizzou tennis team improved to 4-1 on the season with a 7-0 sweep over Morgan State on Wednesday evening at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center in Norfolk, Va.
DOUBLES
The Tigers earned wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, losing just one game in the two matches. Junior Mackenzy Middlebrooks and sophomore Ellie Wright earned a 6-0 win over Peggy Rooke and Asmara Rose at No. 1 action, while juniors Serena Nash and Gabrielle Goldin defeated Dana Santiago and Oriane Yehoueno, 6-1.
SINGLES
Vivien Abraham got Mizzou going in singles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Yehoueno at No. 5 play. A 6-0, 6-0 win for Wright over Averiana Mitchell put the Tigers up 3-0 and improved Wright to a perfect 5-0 in the spring. Freshman Lisa Fukutoku downed Santiago, 6-0, 6-1, to clinch the Missouri team victory at No. 3 play. Also earning wins during the match were Goldin, Nash and Middlebrooks. Goldin ousted Jourdan Wallace, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 6 action, Nash defeated Rose, 4-6, 6-3, 10-2, at No. 2, and Middlebrooks downed Morgan State's top singles player, Rooke, 6-3, 6-2.
