Storylines
- Mizzou and LSU meet for the ninth time in their program histories. Mizzou is looking for its third overall win in the head-to-head series and its first victory over LSU since Jan. 8, 2015.
- Mizzou has already won three games over ranked opponents at home during the Cuonzo Martin era. Before his arrival, Mizzou hadn't beaten a ranked team since downing No. 18 UCLA on Dec. 7, 2013 (80-71). A win on Saturday would give Mizzou four victories in their last seven games against AP Top 25 opponents.
- After limiting Texas A&M to just 43 points last Saturday, Mizzou has now held opponents to 69 or fewer points 31 times in the Martin era, which amounts to 62 percent of the games with him at the helm. When the Tigers have done so this season, they are 10-0. The Tigers rank second in the SEC and 41st nationally in scoring defense, allowing just 65.6 points per game.
- Mizzou is attacking the glass this season. It has outrebounded its opponent 13 times in 17 games this season. The Tigers have done that 35 times in 50 games during the Martin era. Mizzou is limiting opponents to 32.2 rebounds per game, which ranks fourth in the SEC.
- Mizzou leads the SEC in 3-point field goal percentage and ranks 16th nationally in that category, shooting 39.2 from beyond the arc. From 2012-17, Mizzzou shot 32.4 percent from 3-point range. In the Martin era, Mizzou is shooting 38.7 percent from deep. The Tigers have made at least eight triples 14 times in 16 games and shot at least 35 percent from beyond the arc in 12 of 17 games.
- The 39.2 3-point field goal percentage thus far is Mizzou's best in a single-season since 2011-12 and the fourth-best in a campaign in program history through 17 games.
- Sophomore Mark Smith is the SEC's top 3-point shooter and the top 3-point shooter among all high major players nationally (47.5 percent).
More 3-Point Stats
- Mizzou has shot above 38 percent from 3-point range as a team in a season just seven times in program history. The Tigers are on pace to do so in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1994-95 and 1995-96.
- Mizzou has shot above 34 percent from beyond the arc 14 times in 17 games. Only 29 total schools in the nation have done so this season, including three high major programs.
- Mizzou has seven players shooting above 35 percent from 3-point range individually this season.
Smith One of Nation's Best 3-Point Shooters
- Including a career-high 22 points at Arkansas, Mark Smith has reached double figures in five of the last six games. Smith drained a career-high six 3-pointers at Arkansas. He is the sixth Tiger since 2010 to accomplish that feat.
- Smith has 214 points, 93 rebounds and 48 triples in 17 games. He notched 179 points, 42 rebounds and 16 triples all of last season at Illinois.
- He is ripping the nets at a 47.5 percent clip from beyond the arc after shooting 23.2 percent from 3-point range as a freshman. That leads the SEC and ranks fifth nationally through 17 games. He ranks first nationally among high major players. Smith ranks fourth in the SEC in league play in 3-pointers made per game with 3.6.
- Smith has made multiple triples 13 times in 17 contests. Smith has hit at least one triple in his last 18 games.
- Smith leads Mizzou with 81 defensive rebounds. He is one of two players nationally with at least 81 defensive rebounds and a 3-point FG pct. above 47 percent (min. 90 attempts).
- Smith hadn't reached double figures since scoring 11 points against Mizzou on Dec. 23, 2017. He's done so 11 times this season.
- Through 17 games, Smith's 47.5 percent clip from 3-point range would be the fourth-best in a single-season in program history.
Key Presence in the Paint
- Sophomore standout forward Jeremiah Tilmon was named SEC Player of the Week on Dec. 24, his first career conference award and Mizzou's first since Kassius Robertson on Feb. 12 of last season.
- In Mizzou's 10 wins, Tilmon is averaging 12.3 points per game and shooting 59.1 percent from the field. In its losses, Tilmon is putting up 6.3 PPG and shooting 44.4 percent from the field.
- He has scored in double figures 21 times in his career. Mizzou is 19-2 in those games, including 8-1 this season.
- Tilmon is shooting a team-high 55.7 percent from the floor this season. He's made 41 of his last 68 field goal attempts.
- Tilmon has been dominant at home this season, reaching double figures in six of 10 games thus far and posting three of his four double-doubles.
