COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Baseball senior INF Paul Gomez (Orange, Calif.) has been named to the 2019 Southeastern Conference Baseball Community Service Team, announced Wednesday by the league office.
Gomez was 1-of-14 student-athletes in the conference to be recognized for their accomplishments beyond the field of competition. Each year, the Southeastern Conference names a Community Service Team for each of its 21 league-sponsored sports.
The Tiger infielder completed 30-plus hours of community service over his two-year career at the University of Missouri, including 17 hours thus far in the 2018-19 school year.
Specifically, Gomez has completed community service work in the Mid-Missouri area through Mizzou Moves, Food Bank of Central Missouri, Caleb's Pitch at University of Missouri Hospital, Reading Club at West Boulevard Elementary School, Optimist Club Tree Farm, Make-A-Wish, Bear Creek Run Half Marathon, Mizzou Youth Experience, HyVee Food Preparation and Douglass Park Clean-Up.
On the field in 2019, Gomez has enjoyed a breakthrough senior campaign. In SEC only action this year, he ranks first amongst Mizzou hitters with 16 hits and six doubles. He's currently second on the team with four home runs and 17 RBI in SEC play.
