Tigers off to first 2-0 start since 2015
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Football ran past Wyoming, 40-13, Saturday night at Memorial Stadium. Mizzou scored touchdowns on five consecutive drives beginning in the second quarter, all of 70+ yards and at least eight plays, to pull away from the Cowboys and improve to 2-0 for the first time since 2015. Senior QB Drew Lock and senior WR Emanuel Hall had great games, both further cementing themselves in the Mizzou record books. Lock went 33-for-45 for 398 yards and four TDs while adding 51 yards and another score on the ground. Lock is now tied for seventh in SEC history with 79 career TD passes, matching Andre Woodson's career total.
Hall had a career-high 10 catches for 171 yards, becoming the first Mizzou WR since 2009 (Danario Alexander) to post back-to-back games of 170+ receiving yards.
Mizzou held Wyoming scoreless in the first half and allowed just 84 Cowboy yards in the opening 30 minutes, the fewest yards allowed in a first half by a Mizzou defense since 2015 against UConn.
TURNING POINT
The turning point of Saturday's game came in the second quarter, as Mizzou finally broke through in what was a defensive stalemate for much of the first half. After a Wyoming punt pinned Mizzou under the shadow of its own goal posts with 5:32 remaining in the second quarter, QB Drew Lock and the Mizzou offense engineered a game-changing drive. Sparked by a 36-yard connection from Lock to Emanuel Hall on third-and-six from its own nine-yard line, Mizzou put together a nine-play, 97-yard drive to extend the lead to 10-0. Lock capped the drive with a 12-yard scramble for his fourth career rushing TD.
Mizzou's defense then got the ball back, and the Tiger offense again responded, putting together another great drive to extend the lead to 16-0. With 2:23 remaining, Mizzou went 73 yards on 12 plays as Lock found a wide-open Albert Okwuegbunam for a 19-yard TD strike right before the half. Lock had a key scramble on third-and-seven early in the drive to pick up eight yards, as he trucked a Wyoming defender with a lowered shoulder to pick up the final yard.
Lock then found Hall again for a 28-yard strike on the first drive of the third quarter as Mizzou extended its lead to 23-0 to put the game away.
