The honor marks Munlyn's first weekly award by the SEC office this season. Overall, the Tiger middle blocker has produced 11 weekly honors from the conference over her four-year career. Munlyn has been recognized as the SEC Defensive Player of the Week six times, SEC Freshman of the Week four times in her 2015 first-year campaign and received the overall SEC Player of the Week once in 2016.
"Alyssa had a great week and we're very proud of her efforts," Mizzou Volleyball head coach Wayne Kreklow said. "She was a big part of our success in Puerto Rico and really had a great weekend defensively at the net."
Munlyn played a key piece into the Tigers' perfect 3-0 weekend in San Juan and capturing the Puerto Rico Invitational Championship. She paced Mizzou in solo blocks (four), block assists (18), total blocks (22) and blocks per set (1.83).
Led by Munlyn's dominant efforts at the net, Mizzou recorded double-digit total blocks in all three matches in San Juan, highlighted by a season-high 14.0 total stops against Arizona State. The Tiger middle blocker currently leads the SEC in block assists (32), total blocks (37) and blocks per set (1.68). Nationally, Munlyn ranks seventh in total blocks and 11th in blocks per set.
Additionally, in the Tigers' thrilling five-set victory over Miami (Fla.), Munlyn became the school's all-time career leader in block assists, surpassing Whitney Little's old mark of 420. Entering this weekend at the Towson Invitational, Munlyn is 14 total blocks away from resetting another program record.
