@MizzouSoccer comes up short at Arkansas, 1-0

Tigers falter in second half to fall to the Razorbacks on the road

COLUMBIA, Mo. — Mizzou Soccer (4-6-2, 1-2-1) fell at Arkansas (8-2-2, 3-1), 1-0, on Thursday night at Razorback Field. The two teams appeared to be evenly matched in the first half, but the Tigers again faltered in the second half, giving up the game winner in the 59th minute.

Mizzou's offense played well in the first half, seeing plenty of chances against Arkansas' defense. The Tigers controlled the midfield for much of the period, and placed two of their five shots on goal, but for the seventh time this season, the Black & Gold failed to find the back of the net.

TURNING POINT

The Tigers and Razorbacks traded possession in the first half, but neither offense could really get anything going consistently. In the second half though, that all changed, as Arkansas grabbed the game winner in the 59th minute.

The Razorbacks sent an attacker down the far sideline, and she was able to play a ball right into the middle of the box. Senior defender Rachel Hise (Lucas, Tx.) got a body in the way of the ball, but an Arkansas attacker was there waiting on the deflection, and placed it into the low corner.

TOP TIGERS

  • Redshirt junior Madison Lewis (Zionsville, Ind.) was active in the first half on set pieces in this one, heading two balls on frame.
  • Junior forward Sarah Luebbert (Jefferson City, Mo.) placed her only shot of the night on goal.
  • Freshman forward Julissa Cisneros (Moreno Valley, Calif.) put one of her two shots on target.
  • Senior goalkeeper Kelsey Dossey (Plainfield, Ind.) registered four saves in the game.

QUOTEABLES

"I am very proud of the way our team battled against a good Arkansas team on the road," head coach Bryan Blitz said. "We had our chances, and we just have to learn to put those away against good teams. We have a lot to build on."
