COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Soccer (4-6-2, 1-2-1) plays a double-header this weekend, featuring a home matchup with Ole Miss (8-4-1, 2-1-1) on Thursday at Walton Stadium followed by a road battle with LSU (7-4-1, 1-2-1) on Sunday afternoon at LSU Soccer Stadium. The Tigers are coming off back-to-back losses, losing at home to Vanderbilt last Sunday, 2-1, and falling to Arkansas on the road this past Thursday, 1-0.
The Tigers played the Razorbacks tough in their most recent game, but conceded the game-winning goal in the 59th minute. The Tigers have played in seven one goal games this season, and their record in those games now stands at 3-4.
TALKING POINTS
- The Tigers most recently fell on the road, losing at Arkansas, 1-0.
- The Tigers were once again tied at the half, but ended up conceding the winning goal to the Razorbacks in the 59th minute. The Tigers were shutout for the seventh time this season.
- The Tigers' last home game was a 2-1 loss to Vanderbilt.
- The Tigers lone goal in the game came from junior forward Sarah Luebbert, who headed the ball in after an attempted bicycle kick from freshman forward Julissa Cisneros hit the crossbar.
- With her goal on Sunday, Luebbert now has 20 in her career. She is just one of nine players in Mizzou Soccer history to score 20 career goals.
- She also leads the team in several major offensive categories this season, including goals (3), points (6) shots (24), and shots on goal (14).
- Cisneros' assist was the first of her career, and only the second for the Tigers all year. The Tigers have scored eight goals, six of which have been unassisted.
- Both of Mizzou's assists this year have come from freshmen. Freshman forward Blythe Beldner registered Mizzou's only other assist against Iowa State.
- Senior goalkeeper Kelsey Dossey registered her third shutout of the season against Georgia. She had a couple of difficult saves in the second OT period to keep the clean sheet.
- Dossey has now blanked the opponent in three of her last six games. She also now has 10 shutouts in her career.
- Three of Mizzou's core defenders have gone over a thousand minutes this season already: junior Peyton Joseph (1137), senior Rachel Hise (1025) and sophomore Cassidy Nurnberger (1071).
LOOKING AT THE OPPONENT… OLE MISS
- Ole Miss has an overall record of 8-4-1, defeating Louisiana, WKU, Murray State, Troy, South Alabama, FAU, Alabama and Auburn
- In their past two games, Ole Miss defeated then-No. 9 Auburn, 3-2, and drew with then-No.5 Texas A&M, 1-1, in double overtime.
- Senior forward and midfielder CeCe Kizer broke two Ole Miss records against Auburn. After scoring two goals and amassing four total points, she is now the all-time leader in both categories with 46 goals and 110 points in her career.
- Kizer leads the SEC with 11 goals this season.
- In the game against Texas A&M, senior goalkeeper Marnie Merritt recorded a season-high nine saves, which led the Rebels to a draw against the Aggies.
- The SEC awarded Merritt the SEC Defensive Player of the Week after her performance.
LOOKING AT THE OPPONENT… LSU
- LSU enters the game with an overall record of 7-4-1. The Tigers have defeated Liberty, Texas State, South Alabama, Lamar, Stetson, Samford and Alabama.
- LSU leads Mizzou 3-2 in the all-time regular season series record. Last season, Mizzou defeated LSU, 2-0, in Columbia.
- The Tigers recorded their first SEC conference win last Thursday against Alabama. Sophomore forward Adrienne Richardson scored two goals as LSU defeated the Crimson Tide 2-0 at home. This game marked Richardson's third multi-goal game of the season.
- LSU moved to 4-0-1 in their last five home matches. Additionally, Mizzou has never beaten LSU in Baton Rouge.
- Senior goalkeeper Caroline Brockmeier recorded 11 saves in the win over Alabama, marking a season-high performance.
