
Illinois State Invitational Up Next for Mizzou Cross Country

34 runners are scheduled to race for Mizzou on Friday
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Cross Country will continue their season Friday as they head to Normal, Ill., for the Illinois State Invitational. The women will begin the day for the Tigers at the Weibring Golf Course in a 5k race at 5 p.m. (CT), followed by the men's 8k race at 5:45 p.m. (CT).
The Mizzou men enter the race ranked 10th in the USTFCCCA Midwest Regional Rankings, while the women are ranked ninth.
For the women, the Tigers will look to repeat their performance from last race where they placed first overall at the Brooks Twilight Classic (Sept. 1). Mizzou will send 22 runners to start line the women on Friday, including six who placed top-ten in Memphis. Freshman Mikayla Reed (Washington, Mo.) placed sixth overall during her last appearance, earning her SEC Freshman of the Week honors. Junior Melissa Menghini (Fenton, Mo.) currently holds the best overall finish on the team, placing second overall at the Brooks Twilight Classic with a time of 17:46.88 in the 5k race. Also running for Mizzou will be freshman Tori Findley (Blue Springs, Mo.) and redshirt junior Sophia Racette (St. Louis, Mo.).
On the men's side, Mizzou will be looking to improve on a second place overall finish from their previous appearance at the Brooks Twilight Classic (Sept. 1). Redshirt junior Thomas George (Gloucester, England) will look to lead the Tigers after a third-place overall finish in the four-mile race in Memphis. Also running for Mizzou will be junior Kieran Wood (Cambridge, U.K.), who placed eighth overall in his last appearance, and freshman Oaklee Hauschild (Blue Springs, Mo.).
Friday's race will be the second of five meets for Mizzou before entering postseason competition. The Tigers will head south to Auburn, Ala., for the SEC Championships on Oct. 26, north to Peoria, Ill., for the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships on Nov. 9, and further north to Madison, Wis., for the NCAA Championships on Nov. 17.
