COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Soccer (2-4-1) remains at home this week, starting conference play on national television on Thursday, as the Tigers will tangle with Kentucky (4-4-0) at Walton Stadium. Mizzou will follow this up with a contest against Portland State (2-3-0) on Sunday, which will be the Tigers' last non-conference game of the season.
Mizzou snapped its four-game losing streak in style, riding a dominant second half performance against Gonzaga to a 2-0 victory this past Sunday. The Tiger offense was rolling in the second period, getting goals from redshirt junior midfielder Madison Lewis (Zionsville, Ind.) and redshirt junior forward Bethany Coons (Union, Mo.). The Tiger defense was great again against the Zags, as the Black & Gold recorded its second shutout of the season. Senior goalkeeper Kelsey Dossey (Plainfield, Ind.) recorded seven saves, and recorded her first clean sheet of the season.
TALKING POINTS
- The Tigers scored twice in their game against Gonzaga. It was the first time the Tigers had scored two offensive goals in a regular season game since they beat LSU last season 2-0 (10/26/17).
- Lewis' goal, which came by way of a penalty, was her first of the season and the eighth goal of her career. It was also the first PK attempt and PK conversion of her career.
- Coons' goal, meanwhile, was the second of her career, and her first since coming back from injury. It was Coons' first goal since the Tigers played Kentucky in 2016 (9/22/16).
- With her eight career shutouts, Dossey now has the fourth most in Mizzou Soccer history. She moves into a tie with Jackie Adamec.
- Dossey had a career-high 10 saves against No. 4 USC, tying the most saves she has ever had. She also registered 10 in a shutout win a season ago against LSU to get the Tigers into the SEC Tournament.
- With her 17 combined saves this weekend, Dossey now has 156 in her career, moving her into sole possession of seventh place on Mizzou's all-time saves list. She passed Stephanie Krawczyk, who had 145 in her career.
- Dossey currently leads the SEC in saves per game, with 5.50. She is also second in the conference in total saves, with 33, despite only playing in six games.
- Her win against Gonzaga marked the 20th victory of her career.
- So far this season, Mizzou is 1-2-1 in OT contests. They have only conceded three goals in those four games.
- Both Anna Frick and Peyton Joseph have played every minute of the season so far, registering 674 minutes apiece. That is an average of 96.3 minutes-per-game.
LOOKING AT THE OPPONENT… KENTUCKY
- The Wildcats have won half of their eight games this season, defeating SIUE, Little Rock, Morehead State and Furman. However, the 'Cats have lost four of their last five games entering the conference opener against Mizzou.
