@MizzouSoccer rallies to beat Oklahoma State in preseason finale, 2-1

Tigers turn attention to regular season opener after downing 2017 Big 12 Champions

Box Score

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – @MizzouSoccer closed its exhibition schedule in style, taking down Oklahoma State, 2-1, Friday night in Kansas City, Mo. Mizzou entered the second half down 1-0, but fought back to score two goals in the second half to close out its preseason slate undefeated.

Freshman Skye Kingsley (Naperville, Ill.) starred in her second-ever college game, scoring both of Mizzou's goals in the second half. The freshman class has had a major impact for head coach Bryan Blitz during preseason play, as all six again saw the field and again contributed to a win against a quality opponent.

TURNING POINT

Though the Tiger offense was flowing for most of the night, it was the finishes from Kingsley that powered the Tigers to their second straight preseason win. Her first goal came off of a corner kick in the 59th minute, served up to the middle of the 18-yard box by fellow freshman Blythe Beldner (Wildwood, Mo.). Beldner's ball found the head of redshirt junior Madison Lewis (Zionsville, Ind.) who found Kingsley on the near post for the finishing header.

Kingsley's second goal, and the game winner, came in the 83rd minute off of a low ball from junior forward Sarah Luebbert (Jefferson City, Mo.), who had beaten her defender one-on-one with great straight line speed down the far sideline. The ball found Kingsley's foot, and then rocketed into the back of the net to secure the win for the Black & Gold.

TOP TIGERS

  • Beldner notched an assist for the second straight contest on her corner kick.
  • Senior Goalkeeper Kelsey Dossey (Plainfield, Ind.) played the entire second half without allowing a goal. She had four saves to propel the Tigers to the win.
  • The junior defensive duo of Anna Frick (Webster Groves, Mo.) and Peyton Joseph (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) went the distance for Blitz, playing all 90 minutes defending on the backline.

UP NEXT

The Tigers open up their regular season next Friday, as they travel to Iowa City, Iowa to take on the Hawkeyes. The game is set to kick off at 7 p.m. CT.
